W139/reading #1
In 2007 I started a reading-group project in W139. Being aware of the low level of (contemporary) theory taught at art schools I developed a platform to get acquainted with theory in an informal setting. The aim was to finish a given book from A to Z, being 'guided' by someone who sees him/herself as a fan of the given text. Each period people could subscribe to a multitude of different books. This is the first set of books and their guides:
- Art as life, life as art - Ancella Steketee
- Dr. Faustus, Thomas Mann - Gijs Frieling
- Tractatus Logico-philosophicus, Wittgenstein - Jelle Daaldrop
- Sculpting in time, Andrei Tarkovski - Martijn Dijksma
- Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx - Marinke Marcelis
- The Arcades Project, Walter Benjamin - Yasco Horsman
- Voice in Cinema, Michael Chion - Katarina Zdjelar
- Last exit to Brooklyn, Hubert Shelby jr - Bram de Sutter
- Gender Issues, Judith Butler - Catherine Girard
- On the genealogy of morals, Friedrich Nietsche - Jens van 't Klooster
